There will be a fourth but not till next year.
They will start casting soon but apparently they was open auditions because they proved very successful in the past.

They really shouldn't make the fourth one about college. They should make it about the summer after their senior school year or something like that. Maybe they should make a Christmas version of it.
In one of the magazines I read, it seems like there are going to be international stars.
If they are going to make a fourth one, I don't think the main cast should come back.

The main cast is over. The fourth onehas nothing to do with them. all I know is that the third one was the last with the original cast.

they should just stop. there's no point if the same character aren't there. it's not the same movie anymore. but i read in the new yorker that zac signed on for the 4th.

Well, I don't think Zac Efron should sign on for the fourth movie. They ended it in a great way in the third, so I don't think they should be doing anything with High School Musical anymore. Sure, they can have special cameos in the upcoming movie(s), but I don't think they should affect the plot that much or anything. It'll just ruin the third movie if they do that.
